Taking a walk through the port of Kobe

Updated: Mar 23

"Hey, friends! Today I'm going to tell you about a gem that I found in Japan: the Port of Kobe. A place that will leave you speechless! This port, located in the city of Kobe, in the Kansai region, is one of the most important in all of Japan. Its history is long and fascinating, more than a century of pure international trade and economic activity! Here the hustle and bustle of container ships is an everyday occurrence, a true maritime anthill! Not only that, this port has also played a key role in the development of the Japanese economy.

Imagine, the Port of Kobe is located on a slope of Mount Rokkō, which gives it a special charm. In addition, it has some artificial islands that limit it, such as Port Island, Rokko Island and Kobe Airport Island. It's like a little world in itself! And if that were not enough, it has an emblematic tower that offers the best panoramic views of the city. It is called Kobe Port Tower and is an architectural beauty designed by the famous Japanese studio Nikken Sekkei. Climbing that tower and enjoying the 180-degree views is an experience not to be missed.

But don't think that the Port of Kobe is only a place of business and panoramic views, no, friends! There are also plenty of things to do and see in this port city. For example, I would recommend visiting the Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake Memorial Park and Museum. Here you will find a very interesting commemoration of the earthquake that hit the city and all the reconstruction that had to be carried out. Awesome!

And if you want something more relaxed, take a walk through the Kobe Gardens. They are simply beautiful. In addition, the city has a very lively Chinatown called Nankinmachi, where you can try street food delights. My mouth is watering just thinking about it!

Oh, and don't forget to make a stop at the Kobe Maritime Museum, which is located in Meriken Park. This museum is dedicated to both the Japanese Navy and the famous Kawasaki company, originally from the city. It is worth visiting and learning a little history!

If you have time and desire to explore the surrounding area, I would recommend visiting Arima Onsen, an area famous for its hot springs, or even taking a trip to Himeji and admiring its beautiful castle. There is no shortage of options, friends!

Oh, and don't worry about how to get there. If you have the Japan Rail Pass, you can take advantage of it to move around the city using the Shin-Kobe stations, Kobe Central Station and Sannomiya Station. So convenient and simple!

Well, I hope you enjoyed this little trip through the Port of Kobe in Japan. I assure you that this place has a lot to offer, from breathtaking views to unforgettable cultural experiences. If you have the opportunity to visit it, don't hesitate for a second! Kobe can be a perfect stop on your tour of Japan.
